Surprise. 2:6 chance for each side to surprise the other if neither side is sneaking
Traps. 1:6 chance to spot traps, 3:6 if moving slowly/searching, thieves roll twice
Torches in Combat. 1:6 chance a torch goes out each round (unless the bearer protects).
NPC Attitude/Reaction. When engaging with an NPC for the first time whose attitude to the party cannot easily be established roll 2d6 and consult the following chart. Apply other bonuses if reasonably, and also consider a minimum result if it makes sense.
Once an initial attitude is established, when a character works to increase their relationship with an NPC they can roll against the DC to Improve to try and increase the NPCs attitude by one step.
